Hi everyone,
Over the last few months there has been so many things going on that I can barely keep pace. Things are picking up steam and I've been gigging... A LOT! There was also this other project I was working on, my album "BLANC" will be released worldwide on October 18th.
Since I started putting things together for the album I've had the opportunity to put together all of the artwork for the CD packaging - in fact its been done for months now. Unfortunately there has been so much going on that I've actually been having to update the credits and thanks for everyone that helped. Until last week I thought I had covered all my bases and had everything perfect.
I copy-edited all the text in the digipak (CD case) and was feeling really good about it.
LISTENING PARTY DAY
I open up the first CD (still in shock that its real) and was disappointed to see that something was wrong with the text. A friend of mine (Jeff Westervelt) had played a bass track on the song "Can't hide love" and had played an amazing bass track. Another close friend, Keith Brown (KB), had also asked to play on the album and since Jeff had already played on a few tracks I thought it would be cool to have KB have that track. Jeff's take was great, as was his performance on the other tunes he played on, and I wanted to make sure KB was included in the project - so KB came in and recorded the bass line. KB did such a great job and had such a unique take on the song that I ultimately decided to use his take on the song.
...here's where the trouble comes in...
I had been trying to keep track of which versions of the Photoshop file that had the digipak template updated. The very last edit I made on the file was to update the credits for the bass part on that song from Jeff's name to KB's. Again, Jeff did a great job, and I wanted to make sure KB had an opportunity to be a part of the project - and the part he played was also great.
When I sent the file to print, I made a mistake and sent the previous version of the file to print with KB's name left off of it. I saw the mistake shortly before I saw KB at the listening party and I WAS DEVASTATED. It seriously broke my heart because I value everyone's performance on the record so highly - everyone deserves credit for the great job they did.
Unfortunately, because the mistake was my fault I have a lot of copies to sell through before I can fix the error. There is also a significant cost in duplication so I need to recuperate some of that money to fund the next batch.
I told KB, and he was a true friend about it, but I wanted to make sure that everyone knew the truth and that it wasn't intentional. I love KB like a brother and have an unmeasurable amount of respect for him as a person and as an artist. If you see him, tell him how much you enjoyed his part on the song and know that his name will appear on the next batch of CDs that get made.
Version control is important - I need a new manager!
